Using technology to share the gospel

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:19, 20 KJV)

For years, Christians around the world have wondered when Christ would finally fulfill His promise of receiving us into the place he left Earth to prepare for us (John 14:3 KJV). Many have tried to guess the exact date and were proven wrong. Centuries later, we still maintain this hope that our eyes will soon be affixed upon Him.

Now the question is, why the delay? The answer is you and I. There are several parts of the world that have yet to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. These men, women, and children don’t know what salvation is. Until they do, Christ will not return.

It’s amazing to note how much the world has changed. We have evolved into a society that is highly dependent on technology in order to communicate with one another, even if the person is seated beside us or across the room. Despite all of the advancements we have made, more must be done to share the gospel in every corner of the earth.

Jesus and his disciples visited the various towns on foot, on donkey, or by boat. Can you imagine if Christ had the technology our society has today? Technology represents efficiency, speed, influence, a network. In 2012, we have technology and more, yet Christ has not returned. Our mission will never be fulfilled until we use the tools and resources made available to us. Too many churches have chosen not to utilize the internet, television, or radio. Many churches have not realized the enormous potential that exists if they were to share the gospel through these advanced means. Their reasons may include a lack of vision, a limited budget, and a lack of capable or willing individuals to facilitate this ministry.

We must be willing to invest and familiarize ourselves with the technology that will enable us to reach beyond the hundreds who attend our weekly services. In a few years, attendance will dwindle drastically as more people choose to worship at home. Technology and evangelism must work together. We have been commissioned by Christ to share the good news and welcome new believers into the family. Therefore, do not take your responsibility lightly!
