Biography
Growing up in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, I never dreamt that at such a young age that I would have achieved so much in such a short matter of time.
I remember when I was completing my college applications during my senior year in high school. I was so nervous to start all over again in a new environment. I knew that I wanted to go to college and excel, but I did not whether or not I would be able to keep up let alone succeed.
On May 31, 2007, I became the first in my immediate family to graduate from college with a 3.0 GPA and a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Journalism.
During my time here in Brooklyn College, I have established excellent relationships with both faculty and staff that I am sure will help jumpstart my future along with the solid education that I have received.
Through the Brooklyn College Magner Center for Career Development and Internships, I was granted the opportunity to participate in a two-year summer scholarship program sponsored by the Jewish Foundation for the Education of Women. It was through this program, that I got an internship with Dominican Times Magazine and published the first of many articles.
It was through the invaluable experience that I gained from this internship, that I was able to win a slot in the internship program run by MTV Networks. I spent a semester interning for Nickelodeon Magazine where I was able to reinforce the skills and abilities that I learned in my numerous journalism courses.
I have a growing passion for journalism whether it is print, broadcast, online, or freelance. The freedom to report news that could in turn affect the general public is quite invigorating. As a former staff member of the Brooklyn College Kingsman, I have had the pleasure of meeting and serving my fellow classmates and the college community. As the former editor-in-chief, I had the obligation of upholding the paper and its writers to the highest standards.
Currently, I work for a local elected official in Brooklyn. Over the last year, I have seen and learned so much in the realm of politics. In this capacity, I have also been able to represent her within the community and use my other talents, such as being bilingual to better serve such a diverse population. Every day is never the same.
Graduate school could be in the future for me. I would love to become a successful New York City reporter with a prestigious publication or an entrepreneur. There is a sense of purpose and duty whenever I write and publish an article that goes to the greater good.
In the meantime, I am the District Representative for a local Congresswoman, the executive editor of a Christian youth e-zine, Called 2 Ministry, president of the Hebron Alumni and Professionals Association, a member of the Hebron church and school boards, and many other positions as an active church member.
